This is a listing for a FRAMED real pressed flower botanical.

This prepared herbarium specimen was collected and pressed in the Philadelphia area. This flower is Monarda didyma known as Bee Balm or Oswego Tea. It is a Pennsylvania Native plant and is usually found along steams or in thick clumps in meadow divets (where is is relatively moist). It is sold ornamentally in places, both in and out of its native ranger, because it is easy to grow is has very showy red flowers which are attractive to bees, butterflies, and the hummingbird.

This actual dried specimen is mounted on herbarium paper (buffered to be pH neutral to prevent yellowing and age deterioration) and is ready to be framed. I have distressed this paper with walnut ink and have hand lettered the scientific name along the bottom of the specimen. I feel like this gives the piece the feel of a botanical print, but instead of being a copied image it is a real one of a kind pressed flower on the page!

Beebalm is one of the first flowers I pressed and I was so happy with how it turned out, I took the listing offline to keep for myself. This is from the summer of 2011 and is the last specimen I have until they bloom again in the summer of 2012.

Botanicals make unique and one of a kind art pieces in your home or office. The vibrant red of the Beebalm flower makes this an excellent addition to any room with red accents.

Note: Because this is a real specimen, there is natural spotting and insect damage. There is a hole in one leaf from a chewing bug as you can see in the last photo.

The size of this framed piece is 16.75in x 12.75in

Frequently asked questions about Ecobota

My real botanical specimens are mounted on herbarium paper sized 11.5 x 16.5 inches
I hand stain all of my papers with walnut ink to give a vintage look and feel to my specimens. The staining is not heavy handed and the background does not detract from the specimen on the page.

This does make the background unique on each piece, but they still work visually together in a collection.
