Kokedama is a Japanese gardening technique in which plants are placed in a ball of specially composed soil and wrapped in moss. The mossy ball is then wrapped in twine, cotton string, or another biodegradable thread to hold it in place while the plant and moss root. The string eventually breaks down and the ball is held in place by the plants themselves.

Kokedama can be displayed hung from it's string wrapping or displayed in a dish. Since I am making fern and moss gardens, keep them away from direct sun (they will burn!). Instead, place somewhere where they will get bright, but filtered light. Kokedama benefit from daily mistings of water and should be submerged entirely in water at least every other day.

This listing is for a made-to-order moss ball string garden. Each kokedama ball is made by me when you order it, and will be about softball sized. I will select a low light fern from available stock and will wrap the soil in living moss. Because I want to make sure the fern was not damaged while it was transplanted, I will care for your garden a week before a ship it to you to. For this reason please note that there is a 2-3 week processing time between your order and it's delivery to you. (If you need it sooner, I can rush an order for you, but please convo me before your order). I will ship express on Mondays so that your living garden does not get forgotten over the weekend in the depths of the post office.

Note: because this is a living plant, I can only ship these within the United States.

My real botanical specimens are mounted on herbarium paper sized 11.5 x 16.5 inches
I hand stain all of my papers with walnut ink to give a vintage look and feel to my specimens. The staining is not heavy handed and the background does not detract from the specimen on the page.

This does make the background unique on each piece, but they still work visually together in a collection.
