This vintage linen envelope bag from the 1930's with brightly colored appliqued and embroidered leaves and flowers is so precious and very old.

Various colors of linen are appliqued onto the front edge in a floral and leaf design and hand embroidered with delicate details. The simple, colorful shapes remind me of folk art design. The edges are all handsewn in a decorative blanket stitch in black thread. The fineness of the work is so delicate and beautiful.

The linen has a few age spots on it, with two rust-colored spots on the front and some watermarks that are covered up when the embroidered flap is down but can be seen when it is opened (see photo). They may be able to be washed out but I didn't try, and if you try be very gentle.

It measures 9" by 5 1/2" and is paper thin.

This could be used to keep a sachet in and tucked into your lingerie drawer, hold your lingerie for traveling, keep hankerchiefs in, or store love letters. It would be beautiful framed or added to an artpiece or pillow. Very Shabby Chic.

A humble treasure!
