Oh nooooo- Barbie is going into atrial fibrillation! Dr. Skipper, get the defibrillator, stat!

My fantasy of Barbie's heart trouble is expressed in this original watercolor painting of an ekg printout showing an abnormal heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation, in rocking shades of pink, purple and red. Perfect for your cardiologist's office or as a gift to that special someone who makes your heart beat faster.

Atrial fibrillation is is the most common abnormal heart rhythm. Its name comes from the fibrillating (i.e., quivering) of the heart muscles of the atria (upper heart chambers), instead of a coordinated contraction. It can be identified by an ekg pattern that looks something like this painting. It can be identified on TV by Dr. Yang yelling "He's in A-fib!"

My ekg paintings are made in a multi-step process. First, I draw a grid on the paper with pencil. Then I draw in the ekg line using masking fluid, (kind of like runny rubber cement). When that's dry, I paint over it in stripes of watercolor which I let bleed together. After it's all dry, I remove the mask and erase the lines. Each piece is unique and handpainted and based on actual patient ekgs.

Overall size 11 x 14, including acid-free white mat. Standard size for easy framing. Painted on extra-heavy (300lb) Arches watercolor paper. Signed.
