VINTAGE WEDDING HANKIE, Bridal Pale Blue on White Embroidery, Drawn Work, Maderia, Exquisite, Excellent Condition. One of the finest examples we've seen of this type of work. Unmatched! Something old, something blue.

We’ve carefully laundered this delicate hankie to remove stains and yellowing, then pressed and sized it. It measures approximately 10 x 10 inches.

We have a large selection of white and ivory hankies which are not pictured here, including many with monograms. If you’d like to see more, please convo us and we can send you photos of additional hankies for your consideration. Each hankie is individually priced.

Vintage white and ivory hankies that are popular today with wedding parties were produced primarily in the 1940s and ‘50s in places like Madeira, Switzerland, and the Far East. Embroidery, applique, drawn work, application of lace, pepit point, and hemming were usually done by hand, often by 2 or more women who would each apply her speciality to the piece. Sold primarily in Europe and the United States, ladies would always have a clean white hankie at the ready to dab noses, catch tears, or clean a spot off Junior’s face. It’s said that no lady would let her maid launder her hankies. (I wouldn’t know, of course. I’ve never had one - a maid that is.). Each evening she would wash that day’s hankie in scented facial soap, then smooth it out on her mirror to dry where it would cling until morning. Try it yourself. It really works. Or tell your maid.
