This is a very beautiful Victorian mother of pearl necklace made between 1840 and 1890.

This necklace consists of twenty seven hand carved mother of pearl leaves that graduate in size from small to large starting at the clasp. Each leaf is unique with serrated edges and veining details. The necklace is constructed on top of a beautiful, lacy crocheted white cord. Each leaf is sewn onto this cord and ornamented with a single large, very old prong set clear rhinestone surrounded by a circle of seed pearls.

This necklace is a perfect example of the romantic handmade jewelry of the Victorian era with the favorite themes of nature and eternal love as represented by the seed pearls.

The necklace secures with the original silver tone clasp that has a pretty ornamental design fitted with a single clear rhinestone. The clasp has a hook and box mechanism where one squeezes the hook slightly and pulls to unlatch.
