This is a wonderful example of Art Deco mourning jewelry. It is mad of carved onyx, with a bezel setting. It is flawless and it can be used as a pendant.

Because it is onyx, it is quite heavy, and it is quite large, measuring 3 1/8" in height and 2 1/4" at the longest part.

It is a wonderful mourning brooch, the carving is exquisite, an authentic piece of handmade history.

Mourning jewelry mirrored the lives and times of the people who wore it. It was a souvenir to remember a loved one, a reminder to the living of the inevitability of death.
