This is a beautiful post WWII 1940s gold enameled mesh Whiting and Davis evening bag with scalloped frame. The mesh is bright, untarnished, and undamaged, all the links are intact and the bag is in perfect condition. There is a Whiting & Davis label sewn into the lining and a makers mark stamped into the frame. It features a chain handle and metal clasp which works perfectly. It's fully lined and has one inner pocket. A compact mirror in its original paper wrapping is still tucked away in the little pocket. This mini purse would be great for a cocktail party or with an evening dress but could also work with jeans and a sparkly top for a night on the town.

✂-----Measurements:

Width: 7" at its widest on the base;
Width: 5" at its narrowest along the frame
Height: 5"
Length of chain: 10"

About the Designer: Whiting & Davis, the original designers of the mesh bag, has been known for its high quality and striking handbags since the 1890s. Their patented metal mesh has been supplied to the very best of the fashion industry and has been spotted on the runway in dresses, gloves, and shoes. In 1923, First Lady Grace Coolidge carried a specially made gold handbag to her husband’s inauguration. Whiting & Davis teamed with famed French designer Elsa Schiaparelli to produce silk-lined handbags. These bags were made of metal mesh in varying sizes predominantly in gold- and silver-tone colors. Once made by local women in “sewing circle” fashion who worked linking about 1,000 rings a day, Whiting developed an automated mesh machine in 1912. Mesh for handbags could then be produced at the rate of 400,000 links a day.
