When I get a hankering to draw or paint. ....I make a platter. A ceramic canvas.

They are made in a free form manner, When I begin I don't know what the finished piece will look like. Usually images are based on flora and fauna, stuff under the sea, and decorative fabrics / wallpapers. Always lots of color.

The glazing is a majolica technique. Hand-built terra cotta clay form is fired once, then dipped in a white base glaze. Ceramics colorants are painted on top of the white base and the piece is fired again. 1940 degrees...... making this totally food and dishwasher safe. While you could eat a pretty hardy meal on these big guys, I think they look nice on the wall, so I have a hanging system on the back that can by removed if you are more of an eater then a looker.

This is 12"X16" and about 2" in height.

We found out in November that this size will happily fit a 14 pound turkey.

Majolica Platter lots of painting color and pattern
