Gorgeous antique gold Victorian era double-sided locket, no chain. This incredible work of art measures 22mm x 22mm x 8.5mm not including the top hinge and loop. It features a gorgeous detailed engraved design of a two-toned rose and yellow castle-like city on the front. The backside has a large panel of beautifully smooth orange-red carnelian. The locket opens at the bottom with the help of two tiny knobs (see 2nd photo) to reveal a photo of a stunning woman inside. Her hair is up and she appears to be wearing a large headpiece. She quite honestly looks like royalty--very intriguing to be sure. The photo has a framed glass cover and the adjacent side is empty. The locket clicks closed quietly and securely with an ever so slight gap, and has an attached loop at the top. This piece is believed to be gold filled--it definitely has a rose gold hue to it but I could not locate markings to confirm. Some signs of wear including tarnish and discoloration to the metal as well as some tiny nicks and surface scratches from over the years. The carnelian is secure yet moves ever so slightly--barely noticeable but worth mentioning. The stone has teeny tiny nicks on 2 of the corners (noticeable under very close examination), but other than that looks to be in impressive condition. The locket could use a light cleaning--I'll leave that up to you. Overall a gorgeous unusual locket with a nice high-quality heft to it and surely plenty of stories to tell... This is a one of a kind piece here at Treasure Booth :)
