Huge, wonderfully strange antique black and white photograph in an extra large oval bubble glass frame. Odd portrait of a couple, and perhaps the best mustache ever.

I am completely and utterly enamored of this pair. The woman's distant, somewhat wistful expression, the man's touch of warmth and perhaps playfulness behind the eyes; it's rare and endearing. I can imagine it in all manner of spaces, from solemn library to playful quirky livingroom. It has a sort of quoth-the-raven literary attitude, wouldn't look out of place cobwebbed or half-lost in a collection of curios, but will certainly stand out on a large expanse of white wall in a loft, or tucked in a cottage reading nook.

The frame is made of wood painted to look like tiger maple and ebony, and measures nearly two feet across! (23" to be precise). It has wonderful domed bubble glass within it, giving it a sort of ship's portal appearance. The original photographic portrait is printed on thick card paper with a matte finish, and all those years ago when the article was framed, details were handpainted on to accentuate them (see photo #4 especially, where the lines on the ears, chin, and shoulder can be seen). The effect is subtle.

Condition is good but with appropriate signs of age. The photograph has bowed somewhat into a convex shape over the years as happens with bubble glass framing. There are knocks and bumps to the frame (see photo #5) and some little speckles. The original hanging wire is fraying and I would recommend adding new mounting hardware, as befits your wall surface.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have; I could talk about these lovelies all the live long day.
