A member of the pea family, Baptisia australis, is a native of Central and North America. It is also known as Blue Wild Indigo, and Rattleweed, Rattlebush, and Horse Fly Weed. And it is a Nitrogen fixer.

Its natural setting is on the border of a woodland, so it is receiving partial sun. However, I grow mine in full sun, in the roasting Georgia heat, and it seems to do quite well. Once, you have it started, it will be difficult to move, I will tell you, as it seems to have roots that are holding the earth together. When they are dug, the roots are quite woody and black in color and show wart-like projections on those roots.

It used to be a substitute for the more difficult and expensive version of the true indigo. Easter Native American tribes, such as the Cherokee, used it as a blue dye source, and they passed that process on to the European settlers.
. . . . . 20 Seeds

MIZZ TIZZY'S WEEDS & SEEDS are chosen for what they offer, in their ability to aid your garden's soils, improve their environments, their ability to fight off disease, to deter pests, and improve their growth rated, and increase production.

The seeds you will receive, are presented to you in booklet form with a handy clear seed packet, for you to reuse to collect seeds after the season is completed, to have for next year, or to share with friends.

Each seed package, contains total instructions on how to propagate the seeds, which are always a generous offering, the history, or folklore surrounding the plant, and any medicinal properties it is known for.

Each seed package can also become a page in the gardening book, which helps you follow how your efforts are working. The garden book is a tough 1/2 page 3-ring binder, with rubber spine and front edges, great for the out of doors. Inside are protective sleeves for your seed packages to slip into, and behind that are sheets of graft paper for planning, and a plastic envelope that will hold the name tags of other plants you have purchased, name tag markers, pens, etc. Also included is a booklet, that I have written and illustrated, which will give you some great references for how things work in your gardens, and how to make them self-sustainable - and "Survivable Gardens." We hope you enjoy.
