Peter Spier is known for his meticulously detailed, beautifully done illustrations, and To Market! To Market! runs true to form. To create it, Peter Spier carefully researched and explored the area around New Castle, Delaware. The end result is a beautifully done glimpse back to the year of 1828 when New Castle was a bustling, thriving port town. The book follows the day of a farmer going to market, from rising in the morning to returning home at night, told entirely through nursery rhymes. This book is a joy to read aloud, and also fun for kids to look over and find all of the wonderful little details on each page. A gem.
