This is a reproduction Napoleonic Royal Navy Captain’s uniform.

The precise rank of this uniform is ‘Captain of more than three years seniority’. This is distinguished by the two epaulettes - Captains of less than three years at this date were marked out by only having one epaulette.

The full uniform is included in this listing, which comprises the long uniform coat, the white waistcoat, white breeches, shirt, linen neck stock, and epaulettes. For individual pieces of the uniform, see separate listings (although please note that this full uniform is discounted by 10%).

The uniform is meticulously researched from extant garments.

The coat is trimmed with metallic lace (metallised polyester in this instance, although I can also use the traditional gold wire lace, clearly, the wire lace costs more), in the ‘naval’ pattern. It is made in pure woollen fabric, and the body and skirts are lined with white, twill, woollen lining fabric. The sleeves are lined with pure linen.
The pockets are, of course, fully functional.
The lapels are functional too, although the coat is closed edge-to-edge, by hooks and eyes.
The buttons are exact reproductions of the original 1795 Royal Navy Captains’ buttons, as specified in the uniform regulations, and they are gold plated. The 1795 was the last version of the Royal Navy uniform at this level *not* to have buttons with a crown over the fouled anchor.

The waistcoat is made in white wool melton, and is lined, and backed, with pure linen. Again, the pockets are fully functional.
The waistcoat fastens at the front with smaller versions of the gold plated uniform pattern buttons (please note these are different to those pictured). The back of the waistcoat has an 18th century style laced adjustment.

The breeches are in white wool melton, and lined with linen. They have a fall front, and again, fasten with the correct buttons (again, different to those pictured). They have an adjustment lacing at the centre back waist.
They also fasten at the knee with buckles (in addition to the buttons).

The shirt (not pictured) is made in white 100% linen. It has a frill at the front slit, and it fastens with hand made ‘Dorset cross wheel’ buttons.

The neck stock (again, not pictured) is a soft stock, in white, (or black, if preferred), linen. This is the type of stock that laces closed at the back of the neck - it does not have a buckle fastening (although I can, clearly make a buckle fastening stock, it will clearly cost more).

Finally, the epaulettes are made in heavily stiffened and interlined woollen fabric, covered in gold lace and gold fringing, and padded.

The woollen fabrics are all pure wool, made in England by Abimelech Hainsworth and Sons, who have been producing uniform fabrics for the British military since at least 1815.
Linen fabrics are all 100% linen. Where buckram is used in the internal construction, it will be of linen.

This uniform is machine sewn. Other than hand sewing that is necessary in the construction for technical reasons, the stitching will be done by machine. Buttonholes will be machined, and the lace / braid will be sewn on by machine, etc. Naturally, I can produce a hand finished (no external machine sewing), or an entirely hand sewn version of this uniform, and you need only contact me for a quotation.

Likewise, for other rank / service uniforms (eg, admiral, midshipman, etc, or other military uniforms), you can convo me for a quotation.

Please note, that this uniform will be made to measure, so I’ll need the buyer to provide me with a full set of measurements (I have a form and guide, and can give instruction).

The uniform will take me around 12 working weeks to complete, from the date at which the measurements are provided to me. Shipping time is in addition to this. For additional terms and conditions, please see www.deborahloughcostumes.com/terms

In addtion to this, I should point out that I am willing to accept payment on a 'lay away' / installment plan - convo me to arrange.

I have discounted the shipping rates as a special for Etsy - the parcel will be tracked and insured.

International shipping rates are fluctuating - convo me for a current rate.
