Sometimes there's so much beauty - where to begin? The old Korean or Japanese 3-piece molded glass fishing floats will always be a favorite. The whittle marks, recorded in the glass, from the hand-made wooden molds reflect the light endlessly, like ice dancers on a frozen clear lake, twirling and sparkling, leaping, pivoting here and there over and over....as long as you've got light, especially sunlight or bright light, the dance won't end!

These photos were taken on a typically over-case Pacific NW day, yet the old gem sparkles like an emerald even without any sunlight! Deep Forest Voyage measures 3-3/8" diameter or 10-3/8" in circumference. The float shows added dimensionality in the way the glass was poured into the mold, or the way in which it formed.

Perhaps the mold was moved when the glass was still hot. There are 'waves' or 'ripples' in the glass - like swirls - that don't normally appear alongside the whittle marks which appear in a more consistent manner, the mold being stationary as the glass cools. These lovely effects in the glass add another dimension. The formation is splendid!

This is a 2nd generation (Post-WW II) Korean or Japanese 3-piece molded glass fishing float. The seal 'button' on this three-piece float shows the typical 'umbilical' type surround indentation near the outermost edge of the seal. The seals are mostly uniform and nicely crafted in the 2nd generation of 3-pc molded floats. This one has survived hard work and decades of service in rough seas. The outer surround edge shows two areas of grazing or nicks to the edges. Fortunately, it survived better than many as the glass seals, as they are exposed to the harshness and challenges of working at sea over many decades. You may study the seal in photo #3 and see it's pretty enough, with any damage being basically minimal.

Each side of the southern hemisphere of Deep Forest Voyage shows a lovely, clear mark in the form of 'II'. It can be viewed especially in photo #3. These particular marks, often called 'hash' marks, in the form of simple Roman numerals such as I, II, III, IV, were used primarily as a means of matching the lower two halves in the process of production. Other more obscure marks were occasionally used.

The 3-piece will forever be favorites due to their sparkling dappled surfaces and superior uniqueness of construction. What a great legacy left for the world to enjoy! Deep Forest Voyage deserves an appreciative home and it will almost certainly encourage your imagination to travel. It's particularly sweet to own a few of these when considering these historical artifacts will never be made again.

Thank you for helping to care for vintage fishing floats which are rapidly being replaced with plastic or synthetic floats.

SHIPPING: Happy to offer Priority shipping for this float. It will be double boxed with extra insulation for protection of its antiquity while in transit. The cost is $10.00. This includes your tracking number and insurance. It will be packed with absolute care. *** Please allow 1 to 3 days to ship and 2 to 3 days for the carrier. You should receive it in a week or less. If you need it quicker, tell me and I’ll ship it fast! ***

COMBINED SHIPPING: Yes - I will combine! Floats of generally similar size & weight can be combined so you save on shipping. These decisions are made at the actual time of packing, using my best judgment to keep items safe from damage in transit, protecting them maximally. Best option is to pay the shipping on each item up front. A shipping refund will be issued promptly via Paypal when your parcels are complete. My customers will confirm I am happy to do this. If this doesn’t work for you, convo for a ‘guesstimate’ on combined shipping of items.

CANADA: USPS has omitted insurance from the economy (1st Class International) shipping category. Priority International is the next best available method yet not cost effective in my opinion, unless purchasing two or three items & combining shipping. Please convo for a quote if interested. My sincere apologies!

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR TIME AND INTEREST. HOPE YOU RE-VISIT lightinawormhole.
