This impressionism landscape painting is striking - a 19th Century Victorian period to Arts & Crafts era Oil on Linen Canvas of what might be yellow bush lupine wildflowers cascading down to a lake with trees around -- shades of periwinkle, lavender, blues, greens -- just gorgeous with master technique of brushstrokes and composition with elements of pointillism known best of the French Impressionists' movement.

The painting reminds me of the style of John Marshall Gamble but there is no signature found, although on verso there looks to be some writing which is typical of how John Gamble signed and titled his works. I tried a low level black light pen but can only make out a couple letters with one word above that which looks like it starts with an L.. ..... There could also be something easily hidden in the flowers on the front but without cleaning it is too difficult to see.

It is in what looks to be its original early frame, very unusual of gorgeous cobalt blue in a deep shadow box gilded wood frame that is square nailed at the corners, heavy, and in very good to excellent antique condition with only one corner, the bottom left leaf, having some minor wear to its Gesso and touched up, see photo's. A touch of blue wear as well.

"Gilbert" is etched on it at the back and there are some replacement wood wedges in the frame corners.

Condition: A tiny one inch 'T' shape tear on a small green tree with a bit of old repair that is not too noticeable unless you look closely to examine, nothing detracting since it follows a trunk, see back photo. It could easily be professionally repaired since it is so tiny.

appx. framed: 29 " x 23 " and unframed: 22 " x 16 1/2 "

Although the stretcher looks re-sized to fit the frame, it is artist done originally to fit the frame, since the top and bottom canvas edge is original and yet the stretcher board is cut that direction too just like the sides. Being sold from an estate as it is found of course.
