Turquoise necklace,

Simple in front and
an attention grabber in back.
Great for someone with very short hair or long hair pinned up.

Each of my necklaces are named after a goddess.

"The One Who Fills the Sanctuary with Joy"

Don’t those sound like some odd
knick-knack picked up during
a shopping spree in Chinatown?

Actually, those are the nicknames given to HATHOR,
the Egyptian goddess of love,
happiness, dance, martial arts,
motherhood, and fertility.

Hathor was the best loved and most worshipped
of all the goddesses in ancient Egypt.
Speculation exists as to whether she may have been
THE great Mother God!

The Greeks associated her with Aphrodite
whereas the Romans equated her to Venus,
two extremely popular goddesses even today,
many centuries later.

A temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor
was erected in 1200 B.C. (!!) in the
Sinai peninsula. Around the same area,
turquoise was mined in ancient Egypt,
perhaps it is for this reason that Hathor
also became the goddess of turquoise.

Curiously enough, turquoise is actually a by-product
of copper. It is the copper mine that is important,
whereas the turquoise is only secondary!

Minimal and timeless,
this necklace is one-of-a-kind,
elegant, comfortable and very wearable.

I used graduated turquoise heishi beads,
a sterling silver clasp,
vintage brass beads,
vintage hand made enamel beads by Zina,
teeny glass beads
and a hand made ceramic leaf by Henrietta Vepstas.

If you love anything turquoise, this is definitely for you.

Thanks for looking.
