This is one of the easiest flower seeds to grow and is great to use in teaching gardening to children, as it is almost no fail. This little Sunflower is excellent to use in containers as well as in flower beds, because this Dwarf Sunspot only reaches 12 - 24 inches tall with an average sized single 8 - 10 inch flower head.

Upland game birds and pheasants (plus Black Capped Chickadees and other birds) like this Sunflower variety for food and cover, and they are great bee and pollinator attractors.

Several Native American groups planted sunflowers on the north edges of their gardens as a “Fourth Sister” to the better known “Three Sisters” planting combination method, of corn, beans, and squash. Some peoples also used them for medical ointments, dyes and body paints and they also produce a latex. Sunflowers can be used to extract toxic ingredients from soil, such as lead, arsenic and uranium. They were used to remove cesium-137 and strontium-90 from a nearby pond after the Chernobyl disaster, and a similar campaign was mounted in response to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster after the Tsunami.
