An impressively large vintage starburst / sunburst clock from Welby, one of the more outstanding names in 1960s mid-century modern clock designs.

Twelve handsome long teak rods on brass-toned posts alternate with twelve brass-toned balls on rods, encircling a dramatic brass-gold dial with raised diamond hour markers and deep black-brown factory enameled finish. The factory-printed "Welby" name is on the center, under the topmost diamond for the numeral "12."

This is a personal statement piece that will "own" the wall it's hung on. The clock measures 29 inches in diameter, tip to tip. This was originally a key-wind clock; the old wind-up movement has been replaced with a new battery operated movement, with a brass plate inserted where the key once entered. The new movement powers the clock's distinctively sized original brass hands -- so the dial has its original "face" and personality.

Vintage condition, with some rubs and scritches here and there to the wood, and some freckling (darkening and spotting) on the brass-toned metal parts consistent with clocks fifty or so years of age that have been generally well cared-for. These signs of age are visible in the photographs, which were taken using two 250 watt lamps (that's bright!) from a distance of 24 to 60 inches. These marks of time recede in visual importance when the clock is viewed on the wall over a fireplace, in normal room lighting - though they are there. Please bear in mind that I photograph with more light and at less viewing distance than people generally experience with large clocks hung in living spaces or offices.

The clock works perfectly, and keeps perfect time. It runs accurately and quietly on one AA battery (included) in a brand-new modern quartz mechanism.

When it arrives, just pop in the new battery, set the time to the 1960s, and admire your own exceptionally good taste. :)
