A custom-designed reproduction of the British Museum cameo gem (see the last photo) with an in-profile likeness of the Greek philosopher Epicurus (see the second to last photo), made from die-struck 925‰ (0.925 or 92.5%) sterling-silver alloyed with rhodium for shine OR shiny silver-plated bronze (choose in the options). Comes with a bail clasp attachment and a 1.5mm silver-plated brass 24" chain with a lobster clasp. Unisex.

The inverse side carries the words 'SIC FAC OMNIA TAMQUAM SPECTET EPICURUS', which is Latin for "Do all things as if Epicurus were watching", a saying tacitly praising Epicurus and attributed to the Stoic philosopher Seneca.

Epicurus of Samos was an ancient Greek hedonist philosopher and sage who founded Epicureanism, a highly influential school of philosophy. For Epicurus, the purpose of philosophy was to help people attain a happy, tranquil life characterized by ataraxia (peace and freedom from fear) and aponia (the absence of pain). He advocated that people were best able to pursue philosophy by living a self-sufficient life surrounded by friends. He taught that pleasure was the ultimate good and that people should behave ethically not because the gods punish or reward people for their actions, but because amoral behavior will burden them with guilt and prevent them from attaining ataraxia.

This is the BEST mini-bust of Epicurus – and the ONLY mini-busts of Hermarchus and Metrodorus – on the net. These highly-detailed busts are lightweight, yet durable, and, from an angle, can be easily mistaken for their larger, marble siblings. If you're looking for Epicurean images, forget Amazon: SocietyOfEpicurus has what you need.
