A history lesson! The tragic near-extinction of the American Buffalo affected me pretty deeply as a child. Only five hundred years ago the buffalo numbered in the hundreds of millions, great beautiful beasts that roamed the prairies and the the lands from Canada to Mexico, and they were an essential part of the lives of First Nations peoples. Everything changed when the European settlers of the 1800's, who believed the buffalo were limitless, and also wanted to eliminate the primary food source of the Plains Indians, hunted the buffalo until there were only 2000 left. Today, after some nurturing, the buffaloes are up to about 500,000 between the US and Canada, but this is still such a sad number compared to their once magnificent herds.

This little buffalo pillow pays homage to these lovely burly creatures, with hand lettering and a solitary silhouette. Measuring 16 x 11 x 3 inches, this pillow is hand screenprinted in purple ink on white cotton with purple piping, and stuffed with soft polyfill. Bring one into your home and give the buffalo some love!
