I choose my book offerings with several stipulations in mind, all centered around creativity and decorating. I look for great coffee table type books that invite perusing with awesome artsy vintage covers. Inside I look not only for interesting info, often some history, but also great art illustrations or old matte photography. The images in these books can often be removed and framed if you choose.
This is a large wonderful coffee table book called The Glory Years, The Booms and Busts in the Land of the Sundown Sea. Hardcopy, 1964 First Edition, 274 pages with over 100 illustrations including 16 full page color ones and 3 reproductions of original California oil paintings. Lots of great maps and sepia illustrations. Loaded with pioneer charm! A fold out copy of an old San Diego newspaper included as part of the book. Clean tight binding and nice dust cover though book is very nice without it if you prefer a solid tasteful cover. Only flaw I could find is a comical little note in the front on inside cover page. (: This book is the story of what happened and how it happened, the growth of southern California specifically after the civil war.. The history is given from the vantage point of one area, San Diego, the first white settlement on the Pacific coast. Large heavy book, measuring 11 1/2" by 8 3/4" by 1 1/4". There are 15 chapters with titles like: Move Over San Francisco, The Train that Never Came, The Mountain that Sprouted Gold, The Great Tidelands Robbery, The Day the Town Went Wild, Why Not Sell the Climate?, When the Games Ran All Night, etc. One of my fav illustrations is of the old Hotel del Coronado! due to the lighting in my photos, some pages look washed out but they are bright and clean.
Shipping is for MAINLAND U.S. Convo with zip for Alaska, Hawaii, or for shipping OUTSIDE U.S.
Check out my shop for some lovely vintage VALENTINES, ephemera, other seashell prints, botanical & birds also, original sea-inspired art, letterpress wooden letters, vintage bottles, books, vintage Christmas, etc... LOTS to inspire you to create, decorate, or gifts for the hard to buy for. MUCH is SEA-inspired! As always from SeaSeaRider, smoke-free.
I always do my best to give shipping discount for multiple purchases. Since I have such a broad range of items, I can not accurately reflect this in the shipping info in each listing. Convo for quote with zip or country. Or if you want to go ahead and check out, I will do my best and refund thru Paypal.
Be encouraged, sun is on the way. I hope you have a chance to "roll down that window and smell that salt air!"
