The Pentagram or Pentacle is an ancient symbol that has been used by Mystical tradition of Christianity, Druid and Pagan practices, Kabbalah and Judiasm. The pentacle is also associated with alchemy, magic and sacred geometry. Pythagoras used it as a secret symbol for his followers to recognize one another and was considered a key to higher knowledge which Adam before him had discovered. The 5 points of the pentagram (5 being the number of Man according to Pythagoras) represent the elements of earth, fire, air, water, and spirit or ether. It is used as a sign of protection and is a symbol of power which is imbued with actual power for use in casting spells and secret revelations.
