Gorgeous large antique Victorian black enamel locket, no chain. This beautiful piece features a tiny seed pearl in a darling star setting surrounded by black enamel and a golden moat. The locket opens on the right with the help of two tiny knobs to reveal two oval spaces inside with ribbed purple paper inserts. The glass cover on the left is missing and the one on the right is cracked. Both photo rings are present. The locket clicks closed quietly and securely. The backside is solid black enamel and there is a loop with solid ornamental bail still attached at the top. This piece measures 35mm x 28mm not including the loop. Definitely some gold content, the metal has a beautiful glow, but no markings to confirm exact content. Overall condition is excellent considering its age with the main flaw being missing enamel above and below the hinge. The missing section above the hinge is about 10mm x 4mm and the one just below it 9mm x 2mm (see 4th photo). There are light scratches and faint nicks to the rest of the enamel--these are slight and only noticeable upon close inspection. A gorgeous locket to be treasured.
