This is a beautifully textured hat pattern and so in right now. Surprise your favorite grand child with a cute ear flap hat for Valentine's Day.
This pattern is a combination of written instructions and photo and video tutorial.
I have included some YouTube links for a couple of the special stitches in my pattern. Once you knit one repeat, the rest is easy, since the pattern repeats 5 times. You can also knit it in one or two evenings!
Basic Skills Necessary:
English cast on
knit together (video link provided)
cables without cable needle (video link provided)
I have always wanted to make an ear flap hat, and liked the cable pattern on the flaps.
With Valentine's Day coming up I thought about cables opening up into a heart shape and when a friend asked me to make a hat for her grand daughter, I decided to come up with a design for a hat with cables, bobbles, and hearts.
It is knit with a super bulky yarn on size 13 needles, so you can finish it in one evening or maybe two, and for less than $3 with the Weekly Ad coupon from Michael's. Charisma is my favorite yarn right now, it is so soft and so affordable!
11 sts and 16 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch

The hat fits most, approx. 20" - 23" head size, use a size 10 1/2 or 11 needle, and you can change the size to 16" - 19" head size.
