This bag was featured in Belle Armoire magazine, Winter 2014 issue.

The front of this bag is blue-dyed flax fiber and yarn on purple wool. The back is a West African tabby-woven cotton fabric. The fabric is woven in narrow strips which are then resist died with indigo, and sewn together to make the material. The amulet on the front is of the same material, filled with thyme (for courage) and decorated with a fragment of a mussel shell. The back is lined with a lovely cotton/rayon batik material. I left the front unlined because I liked the feel of the felt. The cord and fringes are of 4-strand-braided handspun yarn with glass beads. The very long cord has a beautiful, hand-felted bead to top it off.

I am a fiber artist and my bags are conceived as small works of art. This one is 5.5" x 6.5". It would look smashing hanging on a wall to hold utensils like combs or paintbrushes, etc., but it would look even better around the neck.
