Huang Nan, pictured at right, is a member of the KaChin tribe, originally from Burma. Her family escaped persecution to received political asylum and establish a new life in Austin. Huang learned to tat before coming to the United States and her artistry is amazing. She is accomplished and confident when she speaks of her craft.

These earrings are not only beautiful, they represent an opportunity to see an artist like Huang be empowered, to see her confidence grow, and to see her pride as she supports her family and her community.

The earrings are made with a maroon nylon thread knitted by hand around a metal teardrop frame. They are hung on antique bronze earring posts. The earrings are 3" from top to bottom and 1.75" from side to side. The purple earring pictures are included to show scale and are not for sale on this listing.

Since all of Hill Country Hill Tribers products are produced by hand, each piece is unique and may contain imperfections that add to its character. To learn more about the education and economic development work of Hill Country Hill Tribers, visit www.hilltribers.org.
