This cabinet card shows a portrait of the ultimate nursing matron - kindly and capable, stout, ample-bosomed...this woman is an icon! I particularly love her pointed apron.
She was most likely a Red Cross volunteer during World War I. Perhaps she even went abroad to serve on the battlefields, it could be the reason she had this portrait taken.

The studio is Sykes Portraiture, Broken Hill which is in rural outback New South Wales, Australia.

The photograph is in excellent condition with just very minor bumping to corners.
A great piece of history!

Card measures approx 5 x 10 inches.
