Description

I've always loved birds; in part, I think I get this affinity from my mother. When I think back on my childhood, there was never a time when we didn't have a feeder stationed outside the window. We were always watching the variety of songbirds that stopped for a snack, and my mom would point out the different varieties.

But as much as she loved birds, she liked to keep her distance. She could watch them for hours from inside the safety of the house, but god forbid one come too close for comfort!

As the eldest child, it fell to me to deal with feathered interlopers. Once a starling fell down the chimney and I put on heavy gloves, opened the grate, and fished it out. It was still alive, and I took it outside in the hopes of letting it fly free. It seemed huge, although in retrospect this was probably due more to the fact that I was small.

I still love starlings. I love their screechy chirrups, their speckled feathers, and the way a flock of them can easily blacken the sky.

This is a high quality digital print of an original watercolor, signed by the artist. Starling is 5" x 7" and matted, ready for an 8" x 10" frame. Packaged carefully in a plastic sleeve with a sturdy backing, this print will make a beautiful gift (for yourself or for a loved one)!
