Anecdotes in Natural History by Rev. F .O. Morris. Undated Circa 1880s. Partridge & Co., London, UK.

This is a stunningly beautiful and scarce Victorian Children's book with one of the best chromolith cover illustrations we have ever seen. It is also full of remarkable engraved illustrations. Though the covers are somewhat rough around the edges, the gorgeous gilding and remarkable brilliantly bright cover chromo warrant a lenient view of the edgewear.

This book would have provided a child hours of wonder and awe!

There are over thirty full page illustrations, almost all of animals, and a goodly number of smaller illustrations.

Condition: The binding is whole and complete. The cloth covers have wear at edges and corners, and surface loss / chipping at both spine extremities. Lower edges are somewhat skidded. There is a small tear at front hinge. There are no loose pages, however, hinge is cracked at page 138 and thus binding is fragile. There is some mild foxing. Otherwise, pages are clean and unmarked. There is a mild wood smoke odor-- this book was clearly from a 19th century home with a wood stove.
