This is a graphite drawing of a mythological story of Nuliajuk, the Inuit sea goddess. Can be obtained as a story or book illustration of which I the drawing including its copyrights.

I have drawn the shamanistic ritual of taking care of Nuliajuk's hair, thus setting free sea mammals, and ensuring Inuit a successful hunt.

There is a tender quality in the ritual a shaman visiting Nuliajuk (also known by the name ‘Sedna’) performs when this fierce goddess is angry. Nuliajuk is the sea-deity on which Netsilik Inuit depend for food and living. When hunters cannot find food, Netsilik Inuit believe that their food is tangled up in Nuliajuk’s hair. A shaman will have to travel to the bottom of the icy cold sea where he or she will find the goddess upset with anger. The animals that have once been her fingers before they morphed into sea mammals are itching! They urgently need to be freed from her long hair.

I have set up a drawing with a drawing within a drawing; a scene within a scene. This refers to the world in which we live (the successful hunting scene in upper part of the drawing), the realm of the shaman (his/her two caring hands), and Nuliajuk’s underwater world with sea mammals.

Visit my website for the whole story of Nuliajuk. On my website,, you will also find free lesson ideas on Nuliajuk.

Contact me in case you like to use my Nuliajuk drawing as a book illustration or when you like to commission me for illustration work. I am most willing to cooperate.

LOVE her work! Absolutely STUNNING! I don’t usually shop on Etsy but was looking for two mandarin ducks in a style that would be pleasing to my decor and eye for feng Shui purposes. The details, colors, and composition drew me to her artwork immediately. I emailed her to ask questions before I purchased. She mailed my order immediately after I placed my order. Whenever I look at her artwork, it sparks joy and happiness.

We are thrilled with our beautiful, original watercolor by Paula Kuitenbrouwer in The Netherlands, of Mandarin Ducks, with lotus and other flowers. We emailed back and forth to discuss the size, colors, composition and why we were getting this painting. We had ordered an original for our friends Kenny and Ping who were recently married. Chinese Mandarin Ducks mate for life, and Lotus flowers refer to a happy life together. We loved this composition so much, and the meaning, we asked for Paula to especially create another composition for us. Luckily she had time in her busy schedule and we are beyond happy with getting this artwork for our 43rd anniversary. We highly recommend Paula Kuitenbrouwer. She is extremely talented, very responsive (we got both art pieces within a week!) and lovely to deal with. ~Pat and Ralf Myers

The art of Paula Kuitenbrouwer's is even more incredible in person. The high level of skill employed in Paula's masterful touches have a particularly wonderful effect--when you stand before her art in person, you immediately feel a sense of peace and tranquility. There is a spiritual quality to the feel of everything she creates. I am deeply impressed with the original artwork of the Lotus and the Turtle that I purchased from Paula, and I am so grateful I decided to buy. If you are still considering whether to spend your hard earned money to purchase some of Paula Kuitenbrouwer's art. Understand that not only are you purchasing beautiful art, you are also purchasing it from a beautiful soul. Her wonderful energy comes through her work. She is a rare artist of the highest caliber.

I'm overwhelmed with emotions! I really loved the print and the quality of packing. Even if somebody wants to find some drawbacks - simply can't! First feeling when I opened the envelop - super high professional quality of packing inside, also beautiful paper envelope and a promotional business card that is a piece of art itself. If you stick it to the white high quality carton that was inside to protect the print from bending, these cute ducks become another piece of art on your wall. Butterflies are wonderful, very detailed on a truly high quality paper and molding that looks like a frame and you don't need actually to buy one. And for sure a Certificate of Authenticity. Beautiful...simple...detailed...elegant...full of heart. Thank you so much, Paula!!!!!
