This is a quilted wall hanging of a Native American Fancy Shawl Dancer. The fancy shawl dance is a very athletic dance which emulates the butterfly in motion. The regalia is characterized by the bright colors, specifically the shawl which has long fringes.

This quilt was constructed using an array of batik fabrics. To add vibrance to the quilt I used angelina fibers for the fringes and other parts of the regalia. I also added wool yarn for the hair which gives a wonderful texture to the quilt. The circular shape behind the dancer represents the four directions.

Approximate size is 15" X 21 3/4.
