Classic elegance-6 Italian homespun ivory linen placemats and matching runner with hand stitched taupe needlelace inserts and drawnwork accents. Circa 1900-1920.

The refined, geometric needle lace motifs you see were stitched using a technique known as Reticello or Reticella. Lacemakers cut and withdrew most of the threads from the linen leaving a simple framework. With a needle and thread they stitched elaborate patterns by weaving over and under this framework until the final motif was formed. Reticillo remains a highly collectible lace.

Dimensions: Placemat 11 x 16 inches.Runner 10 x 37 inches.

Condition: Excellent. Time has been very kind to this linen. The set comes to you freshly laundered and pressed.
