This hat is in amazing condition! And to find with the original box from the hat maker in Prague is rare! The box is oval shaped and has a brass handle on top. Inside is an elastic belt to hold the hat in place. The box has it's own glorious patina and the bottom edges could use some reinforcement with paper tape, which I will not do in case the buyer wants it as a collectible object!

The fabric on the hat is silk pile with grosgrain trim and the inner rim is leather , all hand sewn. The rest of the inside is ivory silk with the addresses of the 3 stores in Prague that carried this hatmaker's hats . You can see from one side of the box it says J.Heinr. JTA-Hof-Hutfabrikant, and the czech word for Vienna. On the other side(photo available) It has the large name Vaclav Cekan, Prague. The hat was made in Vienna. Sold in a Prague shop.

Here is some history I found about this hat maker:
"Johann Heinrich JTA, the name sometimes written Ita, (* 1850;? died 10 January 1915) was an Austrian hatter during the imperial Monarchy.
Johann Heinrich JTA was a prominent hat maker in Vienna. His company was very successful during his lifetime he was awarded with several honors. He was financial consultant and president of the Club of the Austrian hat manufacturers. Among his customers included, among other things, the imperial court, he later became a kuk Court-appointed hat manufacturers. Jta chamber was also a supplier of Archduke Joseph. The factory and the counting were at the Linzer Straße 140 in 13 District of Vienna.
He was married to Julie . Together they had several children: Hermine, Ludwig and Gustav . Hermione married Edmund Thilo. Grandchildren were Henry, John and Paul .
Johann Heinrich died on 10 January 1915 by a stroke. He was buried according to Protestant rites at the cemetery of St. Helena in Baden near Vienna "
