Offered is an outstanding cameo brooch, vintage 1930s. It is hand-carved, the image of a lovely lady facing to her left, with intricately-carved detail. Her hair is long and flowing, with ringlets gathered at the back of her neck with flowers pinned. There are waves at the side of her face. Her dress is pleated at the shoulders and bodice and gathered up with a pin on each shoulder. She has a pensive gaze. The detail is astounding and absolutely amazing.

The image is a soft ivory-peach color, the background a deeper peach which deepens behind her head to a wonderful peachy-butterscotch color. The cameo is contained in a sawtooth setting, with an open-work, filigree frame set with six moonstone cabochons 2mm in diameter. This cameo is very unusual and very beautiful.

The frame is rhodium plated. The pinback is an early roll-over clasp. At the bottom of the back of the frame is a drop-down loop, from which a watch chain might have hung, or another adornment on the bottom of the brooch.

The cameo measures 1" x 3/4". The overall size of the brooch is 1 3/16" x 1 3/8".

The brooch is in excellent condition. The metal has an aged patina, darkened from the silvery finish of rhodium, but this is not unexpected, given the material and its age. The moonstones are all intact and undamaged. The pinback is firmly affixed and straight, and it locks securely.

For the cameo lover, this is a wonderful find. It is beautiful and unusual and, once again, the detail is absolutely astounding.
