A 3" tall aqua-colored oval-shaped ANTIQUE quack medicine bottle. This is a small 'sample' size, and the product probably had a narcotic ingredient which made the user crave more. This bottle dates back to the 1800's.

The bottle is embossed "KEMP'S / BALSAM" vertically down the front.

This is a very early hand Blown In Mold bottle (BIM) dating back to the 1800's.

Bottle is in nice condition, has some haze, NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc.

Kemp's Balsam also came in a larger sized bottle, this was the small sample that would get a user addicted to the narcotic ingredient ( OPIUM - MORPHINE - etc.) It was touted to cure just about every affliction known to mankind, but the product died out as the Pure Food and Drug Administration put an end to fraudulent patent medicines and with their cure-all claims and narcotic ingredients.

Years ago, an antique picker in upstate N.Y. dug up a small cache of these sample bottles. We were able to purchase them and, upon doing some research, came to find out they had a narcotic ingredient. We believe that someone back in the 1800's was addicted to them, thus the quantity of them all found together.
