Vintage Rice Bowls Japanese Porcelain Spring Blossom Chawan

Bands of luminous mint green glaze, reminiscent of American Lusterware, embellish the surface of these rice bowls (otherwise known as chawan). Delicate sprigs of flowers printed with cinnabar -colored glaze (possibly plum blossoms), fill the space between the green circles.

These bowls appear to have been machine made, with small spatters of the cinnabar glaze in a few areas, as seen in the photos. One bowl has an area of faded mint green along the rim, as seen in photo 3. They measure 4.625" across and 2.125" high.

The bowls were originally used to serve rice, sometimes for soup, but a lot of people, including me, now use chawan rice bowls for ice cream or pudding.

We pack items carefully for shipping with partially recycled materials. In the US, the rice bowls will travel to you via USPS Priority Flat Rate mail; elsewhere it will go by International First Class with insurance.
