This two sided cutting and serving board is flat sawn and contains an amazing array of figuring: quilting, curling, fiddleback, pomele, spalting. Totally gorgeous! The tone and luster of this piece is a work of art-wish I could take credit but was just an incredible tree... This one of a kind board is sawn on 3 sides and has one long side of natural edging--surely to be a treasured kitchen tool and serving tray for years to come. Measuring at 19 inches long, 6 inches wide and 5/8" thick, sturdy but not bulky or cumbersome. Side "B" is featured on the last photo.

Think sleek and satin smooth. Would be fantastic as a serving platter for asparagus wrapped proscuitto, or a simple baguette with a wedge of warmed brie. Yum!

This gorgeous cutting board is made from Acer macrophyllum, or Bigleaf Maple. Native to the Pacific Coast region, this hardwood is known for it's diverse applications-the Coastal Salish people called it "Paddle Tree" and the wood is currently used for everything from furniture to instruments. And cutting boards.

Down To Earth Woodworks proudly produces artistic products from raw materials salvaged locally-often from our 100 acre wooded farm/ land trust in the foothills of the North Cascades. Great care is taken to find and identify materials which might otherwise be considered unusable, be it a recycled old growth timber or a section of fallen log in the forest. As stewards of our forest, we are also responsible to recognize the value of the decomposing logs as habitat. The materials are harvested with as little impact to the surrounding area as possible. To the untrained observer, the raw material might easily be passed over and burned as firewood as it barely resembles the final product. Raw materials go through many stages, beginning with rough cutting blocks with a chainsaw and finishing with sanding and oiling. Searching for unique blocks is time consuming, but certainly rewarding to a company dedicated to using entirely reclaimed materials...and exciting to discover a diamond in the rough. We use only food grade mineral oil on our boards, and include easy care instructions with each board (also available in my shop policies). We welcome international orders, please convo and we will set up a reserved listing with accurate shipping costs.
