Quite a few years ago I made my first lamp shade as a gag. My globe had fallen off the counter in my classroom and split apart. To ease the tension I told my students I'd make something cool from the pieces. I even threatened to gift it to another teacher but by the time it was done there was no way I would part with it. That original lamp determined the map and travel theme of one pf our guest bedrooms.

The entire lamp is about 18 inches tall. The lamp itself is brand new so you don't need to worry about the wiring. Just to err on the side of safety, I would not leave the lamp on and unattended for long periods of time and I would recommend a lower wattage bulb.
