This pendant is crafted out of an antique sterling silver-plated fork. I have snipped the handle off for use elsewhere (see the rings and things in my shop) and have bent the remaining bit over to form a loop for it to hang by.

The result is a delightful recycled piece of Eco-chic wearable art. Each fork pendant I create is different. Even if I bend the tines into similar shapes, every fork reacts in a unique and often unpredictable way.

These are by far my most favorite pieces of jewelry to make. It is a constant challenge to come up with new variations and designs to bend the four tines into. Some are successful, many are not. The unsuccessful ones are recycled again back into my other works. It is all a constant process of creation and reinvention. Occasionally the fork dictates the shape I can bend it into, I have to treat them much like I would the grain of a piece of wood. Once, these forks were a prized possession in someone’s household, admired for their craftsmanship as much as a status symbol. Now their time of usefulness has come to an end, eclipsed in favor of newer stainless utensils. And I have seen fit to in essence “retire” them for use as jewelry. No longer will this fork be employed skewering food or simply sitting in a musty old drawer. It is from now on reborn and showcased as a work of art in its own right.

Since these are pieces of old antique silver-plated silverware, each will bear the marks and scars of a previous useful existence. I take silverware that is more than a half century old, cut, shape, form and polish it so I can pull a beautiful thing out of a rough tarnished utensil. But I'm not perfect, and neither is my work. I wouldn't want it to be if I could. Expect the odd scratch, ding or dent. I call it character, I think it gives each piece a soul of its own. As I create these pieces, they are subject to variety of tools and processes which tend to alter the actual silver surface of the fork itself. Consult the photos to see exactly what this fork looks like and check out my other forks for different versions. I try to take my photos as acurately and honestly as possible so you can order from me with confidence.

Silver plate has a tendency to become a bit tarnished over time. I like the aged look myself, why try and "antique" them with paint when you can have actual antiques that look the part? Plate will get nice and shiny when you polish it, but like any silver, it's going to want to start to tarnish. No matter what you do (short of vacuum-sealing it) it's going to want to start to tarnish when exposed to the air. People have left me bad feedback after their piece turned "yellow". It tarnished! Oh no! It will do that. All you have to do is clean it off if you don't like the patina that develops. Spoon rings generally stay shiny because, if you wear one frequently, you end up rubbing them against your pockets and clothing. You accidentally polish it all day. A pendant on the other hand may not get worn as often. You wear it, expose it to the elements, and then set it aside for a while. So, in the meantime it starts to tarnish while you aren't looking. Don't get upset, if you want them nice and shiny, just hit them up with a polishing cloth occasionally, it's just simple maintenence, clean them like you would the rest of your everyday silverware, that's really all these are after all.

Just telling you all that so you are completely informed and hopefully completely satisfied with your purchase and the tiny bit of maintenence it may need if you want it to look a certain way. If you are ever truly displeased with your purchase, when you get it or later on, just contact me and we'll work it out. I'm easy to deal with.

You will receive the exact pendant pictured in this listing, as well as a leather or suede cord of whatever color and length I have available. If you want a different chain or cord, just let me know.

I usually ship via USPS priority in the United States and standard Airmail for smaller international orders, so take advantage of my multiple item discounts and do a combined order. I'm at the post office almost every day, so I'll have your pendant on the way very quickly.

Make sure to check out the other designs I currently have available for some more exquisite forks. I tend to make several distinct fork pendants all the time, but just when I think I've run out of ideas I end up accidentally creating a new one. And if you don't see one you like, just ask me and make another one.

Thanks for looking and also make sure to take a peek at my ever expanding line of recycled silverware jewelry. Everything from pendants, to rings, to necklaces, to bracelets to things I'm not quite finished with yet...

I also have various recycled silverware components for you to use in your own projects. Spoon bowls, forks and handles all awaiting your finishing touch. Let me save you the time, tools and trouble.

Thanks again,
