I bought this glam column/tent dress in the 1980s in a Seattle thrift shop and have had it stored away ever since. It became a design touchstone for my love of vintage and has been a great inspiration. I have always thought that if I had squired some elegant date to Truman Capote's 1966 black and white ball in New York this would have been my date's dress. That said, it's time for it to find a new home in a new closet (and hopefully on the back of a gorgeous fashion plate).

1960s super glamorous silk chiffon color block gown in the early Geoffrey Beene style. It's a color blocked under-dress made of a heavy crepe, all panel seamed in black and white, and a chiffon overlay in black and white. It's a real show stopper. If you've ever wanted to stand in front of a mirror and say "I'd like to thank the Academy" this dress is for you. This would be a great dress to wear to an Oscar party. Just saying. It's also a great dress for a photographer or fashion stylist looking for a gorgeous 60s dress for a photo shoot. I'm getting a La Dolce Vita scavenger hunt vibe from this dress. Just add Italians, sunglasses, and a castle outside of Rome.

No designer label, size, or fabric content. This very well may have been custom made dress. I am going to call this a size 6/8. My mannequin is a 4/6 and it fits her well. It is meant to be loose and skimming, and has lots of movement in the skirt.

34' bust (or less)
30-32" waist
34"-36" hips (max)
52" shoulder to hemline
44" bottom of arm hole to hemline
14-1/4" shoulder width, edge of arm to opposite

condition: there are some issues--there is degeneration of the silk chiffon at the neckline side (see pic) and some light makeup staining on the neckline. The underside of the arm hole on the right side has some degneration of the chiffon as well (it's torn) and could use a repair. There are some very faint stains on the underside of the hemline. There is a small tear in the chiffon wher it meets the 2 colors at the back below the zipper. There is a hole in the chiffon at the back towards the bottom. That said, overall it's in good solid condition and could use a dry cleaning and some small repairs. I think it's worth fixing for sure, and I have offered it at a price that I feel accommodates that need. I've never seen anyone wear this dress and it would be So great to pass it along to someone who will care for it. Is that you?
