Vintage 1920s 1930s sewing / needlework / embroidery / knitting / crochet book - household linen,tea cosies, cushions/pillows, bags/purses, toys etc

The Book of Good Needlework
Published by Good Needlework Magazine (The Amalgamated Press Ltd), London, UK
Undated but probably dates from the late 1920s (could be early 1930s)

Large format hardback book - approx. 8 1/2" x 11" (approx. 21.5 cm x 28 cm) - 160 pages (including index) - printed on good quality paper - illustrated with drawings and black and white photographs in the main (plus a coloured frontispiece)

This is a fabulous book - a real treat if you are a fan of needlework projects dating from this period. A broad range of needlecraft techniques are included: embroidery, applique, cut work, crochet, etc. Specific projects include embroidered table linen, aprons and pictures; various tea cosies (including a crocheted tea cosy in the shape of a country cottage); simple knitted cardigans for babies and young children; a simple crocheted bath mat; dressing table tidies (using pre-purchased dolls); crocheted garments for a baby doll; pincushion dolls, soft toys etc. Features lots of pretty floral and 'Crinoline Lady' ('Southern Belle' type) motifs,

Please note that many (if not most) of thesewing/embroidery projects required transfers/patterns that are not included, as they had to be purchased separately. However, the instructions/illustrations are clear in most cases and it should be possible for the experienced needlewoman to replicate most of the designs without the use of transfers/patterns. Full instructions are provided for the knitting and crochet projects

If you would like further information on the contents of this book before purchasing please feel free to ask
Please note, too, that this is a UK publication and that adjustments may need to be made by international purchasers (e.g. knitting needle/pin sizes, crochet abbreviations)

Good condition overall. Cover is grubby in places, especially back cover. Considerable scuffing to outer edge of back cover. Corners bumped and worn. Staining/rippling to cover linings and to endpapers. General age discolouration. But otherwise good. Binding is tight, which is unusual (the bindings on these volumes was prone to splitting due to the heavy paper). Internal pages are clean with no major flaws - no stains, tears or annotations

Apologies for the high shipping costs - this is a VERY heavy book and will be horrendously expensive to post overseas. It will need to be well packaged too
I have estimated the shipping charges. If I find that I have grossly over-estimated the shipping charges (after allowing a small amount for packaging) I will, of course, refund the difference. I do offer a discount for combined shipping, though this is difficult to estimate precisely at time of listing

Any questions, please feel free to ask
