Some quilter who had lived through the Great Depression carried her thriftiness to an extreme. Not wanting to waste a single inch of the used garments she cut up for scraps, she took advantage of even the side seams, incorporating them into the pieces she cut in this traditional "Tumbler" pattern. You can see in the photos, that these quilt pieces have a machine-pieced seam running down the middle of each one. But they are hand-pieced together.

Fabric is in great condition, made from used garments, no doubt, but this section of a never-finished quilt is "new" in the sense that it hasn't been used as a quilt. I could not find a single stain or hole. As a quilter myself, I can say that the fabrics are a little lighter weight than i would choose, with a crisp feel and a slight sheerness to some (like the peach color.) Some of the pieces could possibly be linen.

They are sturdy enough for something that won't get hard wear or a lot of washing. One end shows some fraying, but with an overall measurement of 11 /12" x 14 1/2" you could trim it off and still make a square or rectangular pillow.

I can imagine the maker delighting in these pretty colors and so will you. A pillow is only one idea. With all the creative minds connected with Etsy, I'm sure someone will think of a fabulous use for this. Have fun.
