A little bit About Hill Tribe Silver:
There is something special about silver beads made by the Karen Hill Tribe people and I have been buying them now for many, many years. Mostly, I like the idea that I help support a way of life, but more importantly I like that my purchases provide the Karen families with a much needed income. The Karen take their inspiration from nature and each piece is unique and handcrafted. The slight imperfections provide a wonderful charm only found in handmade items. Silver used by the Karen is more pure (95-99%) than sterling silver (92.5%). The higher the silver content, of course, the softer and easier it is to work with. Karen silver will retain its shine much longer and won’t need to be polished as often as sterling
silver.

A little bit about these Shards and Pieces of Glass:
I love these ancient pieces of Afghani ceramic shards especially the ones with lots of ancient patina. There is something special about old beads and shards, don't you think? I love how the colors have faded and I can't help wonder who or what caused all those wonderful imperfections. It is hard to come by information but the vendors tell me that farmers find these shards in their fields and that they can be anywhere from 100 to 2000 years old.

The romans were the first to mass produce glass. Glass containers were used extensively to store anything from food, medicine to perfume. Farmers in Afghanistan, especially in the province of Nimroz find pieces in their fields and it is thought that they are anywhere from 900 to 1200 years old.
