About this pot:
This series of tableware was handmade from a single slab of clay draped over my own hand thrown mold to give them a slightly wonky look. The surface of the clay has been textured through the hand formed process and the marks made are left and highlighted to celebrate the handmade nature of the piece. I hand paint all of my work using underglazes much as a painter would use paints. I also print on the surface using my own technique of blockprinting, stamping and screenprinting. I treat the surface of each individual piece much like a collage or painting and work in one of a kind' and small series. Each piece is coated with studio made food safe glazes and fired in my electric kiln making them strong and safe to use on a daily basis.

About the firing process:
I use a high quality red clay and fire to it's maturity, a temperature close to 2,000 degrees. I prefer this technique because not only does it allow me to use this beautiful red clay (red clay is the closest to a naturally formed clay body)but the lower temperatures mean less firing time and less energy used. I try very hard to be as green as possible in my studio.

Use and Care:
My pots are for everyday use as well as looking beautiful in your home. I use mine everyday and for me that means a pot that is easy to clean and sturdy. I put my work in the dishwasher and oven (avoid extreme temperature changes! NEVER put a cold pot in a hot oven!)all the time. However, dishwashers not known to be gentle so take care of your pot and if you want to be on the safe side I would recommend hand washing. Red clay has a high iron content so I do not recommend microwave use, mostly for the safety of your microwave:)
