This charming vintage old bear has a bell inside him that still makes a noise when he is shaken. He may be Chiltern or Chad Valley as they made bears similar to this although he has no label so I cannot be sure who his maker is.
With his colouring of red white and blue I estimate him to be the early 1950's around the time of the Queen's Coronation, as many patriotic coloured bears were made around this time.
He has a white mohair head and paws, with a blue body giving the impression of a jacket and red Dutch style trousers. His trousers feel more like coton plush than mohair. He is unjointed and stands at 15" tall.
His eyes are amber glass. I have given him a red ribbon to match his trousers.
I had to do a small amount of stitching to his seams, but he is in a generally good condition.
I have surface cleaned him, but his blue areas especially, are still discoloured.
This unusual bear is softly filled except for his head which is filled with woodwool.
