This vintage child's desk and chair set from a public elementary school in Toronto is one example of classroom furniture that clearly owes a debt of influence to the pioneering work of Charles and Ray Eames not only in its use of deeply-hued resin infused with visible flecks of swirly fiberglass, but also in its shape that harkens back to the earlier Eames DCM dining chairs, albeit in a highly simplified, non-plagiarizing form that doesn't infringe upon copyrights or patents.

The desk is as you remember it -- steel legs and frame with a interior pencil tray and a wood tabletop finished with a top surface of ultra-tough melamine (in faux maple). The desktop has the carved out groove for holding pencils and pens but this version has neither the flip-up top (which when you think about it, was rather dangerous, no?) nor the funny hole in the corner (what was that for anyway?)

The top measures 19" deep by 25" wide. The top is 24" off the ground. The seat of the chair is 14" off the ground. Both are rendered in a matching, factory-original and school-board-spec'ed turquoise blue-green.

Local pickup is preferred and delivery to Toronto and surrounding areas is available but we are willing to ship if necessary. If you're in Toronto and would like to pick this up in person, please enter in the coupon code LOCALPICKUP when checking out to subtract the shipping cost from your total. Local buyers can also pay with cash -- simply select "Other" as the payment type.
