These leafy earrings were made by a process called fold forming. To fold form, you bend a piece of metal in half and cut out a shape (here, a half circle). Next you beat the hell of the metal with a hammer and then anneal it (heat it) until it's pliable again. Then repeat the whole process over and over until you have a funky shape you like. Finally, you pry the folded metal open into whatever three-dimensional glory you want. These earrings became beautiful, ruffled leaves.

On the outside, the earrings are textured by the hammer strikes and polished to a shine. On the inside, they sport a matte luster. I oxidized the inside of the leaves to bring out the texture and depth of the piece. The last photo, while terrible, really shows off the colors of the oxidization -- a pinky orange fading to black and then a green sheen along the inside fold. Finally, I added a little blue opal bead to each earring -- a spring bud, perhaps.

The earrings have closed ear wires so you can't lose these lightweight beauties. All components were handmade by me from sterling silver.

Size: Pods are 1" long. From top of ear wire to bottom of pod, 2 1/8".

NOT SURE WHEN TO WEAR THEM? Any time you are wistfully thinking of spring. Or those days where you have to be gussied up for a gazillion hours -- these won't hurt your ears at all.
