A whimsical art tile by Bennington Pottery designed by founder David Gil in the 1960's. These were created from molds, but each glaze pattern is hand applied, and varies significantly. This one has a high gloss brown and green combination. I love the three dimensionality of the pressed off-white stoneware. Very folky yet modern. It would look great in a child's room.

The owl tile is a very iconic item from the 1960's Bennington pottery. I've heard of people buying a number of them and lining them up in a row on the wall to get the effect of a flock of owls, not that they travel in flocks. It would make a great gift for any owl collector!

The tile is signed on the back with the traditional logo-"Sometimes mistaken for the outline of a fork, the vertical element of the Bennington Potters back stamp is actually the shape of a hand and lower arm. Look carefully and you can see the wrist, thumb and four fingers. The smaller symbol, a six petaled burst, represents the inspirational "spark" that is expressed through the hand’s actions." -also marked number 1536. Hanging ring built in. (quote from BP brochure)
