Designed by Erik Magnussen, this is a four-piece set of stacking porcelain boxes/containers with lid made by Bing and Grondahl of Copenhagen, Denmark in the early 1970s. Boasting a deep royal blue color inside and out, only the feet where they met the kiln floor are white. Each piece graduates in size from large to small and a lid on top. While part of a tableware service, named Hank, they would look handsome on a desk, bookshelf or dresser.

Danish modern designer Erik Magnussen has a rich and distinguished career, including Designer of the Year in Denmark. During the 1970s he worked for Bing and Grondahl designing modern and innovative tableware and designed simple sets that had 11 - 18 clean-lined, pieces vs. the 55 of the traditional tableware lines B&G was accustomed to producing. People who own pieces from the Hank line must not be keen on parting with them. They are impossible to find. One look at the rich color and clean, modern design and you don't have to wonder why.

Condition:
This set is in absolutely perfect condition and came out of an estate of a couple who clearly had Scadinavian roots...and excellent taste. There is not a single imperfection that I can find. Each piece has a stamp on the bottom and the mold number 865 with .1 - .4 to indicate the size of each piece.

Approximate Measurements:
Total Height when stacked is 11"
All pieces are approximately 4 1/4" L x 3 1/2" W
Lid Depth: 1/2"
Small Box Depth: 1 3/4"
Medium Box Depth: 3 3/8"
Large Box Depth: 5 1/4"

If you surround yourself with friends who collect danish modern tableware, I all but guarantee NO one will have these. That makes you the winner if you add this one to your collection! I'll even give you all my research so you can speak eloquently about why this is so awesome...beyond the obvious - it's gorgeous.
